If you're looking for a quick way to relax, either for meditation purposes or simply to release stress and tension, this 10-minute brainwave audio track will do the trick. This is a track I designed for my company a few months ago as a free gift for our customers, and now I'm making it available to visitors of this site as well.

Another Headset to Control Video Games With Your Mind

March 7th, 2008

NeuroSky Mindset neuroheadsetA couple of weeks ago in an article called Control Video Games With Your Mind, I mentioned the EPOC Neuroheadset from Emotiv that will allow users to control video games with thoughts, emotions, and facial movements. Another company called NeuroSky has a similar neuroheadset called Mindset in the works.

From what I can tell, NeuroSky's headset is not as complex as Emotiv's headset but they're working with a few other companies to incorporate accelerometer motion, eye-tracking and surround sound. NeuroSky's CEO, Stanley Yang, has mentioned other intriguing uses for the technology, such as controlling your cell-phone or MP3 player with your mind.

One big difference is that NeuroSky doesn't seem to have a software program that allows you to map game controls to headset detections, a feature already offered by Emotiv via their EmoKey software. I believe the mapping feature is going to set Emotiv's EPOC headset apart from the others because it means their headset can be used immediately with any existing PC games.

Without that feature, users will be forced to wait for …Continue reading about NeuroSky's Mindset neuroheadset

Control Video Games With Your Mind

February 21st, 2008

Emotiv EPOC neuroheadsetBefore the end of this year, you'll be able to strap on a lightweight piece of headgear and control video games with nothing more than your thoughts. Emotiv's new EPOC neuroheadset brings us one step closer to Matrix-esque control over our environment. I can't wait to give this gadget a try.

Emotiv has also created software that allows you to map any keystroke pattern to a specific thought or emotion detection in the neuroheadset, meaning the EPOC can be used to control any PC game. Have you ever wanted to cast a spell, hit a homerun, or blast your alien enemies just by thinking about it? The technology to make it happen has finally arrived.

In a recent BBC News segment, Emotiv president Tan Le announced plans to release the EPOC later this year, just in time for the holiday season. If the headset works as well as they claim, it could forever change the gaming industry, and I'm sure it won't be long before other industries find innovative ways to make use of the product too.

Did I mention how much I can't wait to give this gadget a try?

Don't Fall For These Personal Development Scams

December 13th, 2007

DNAOver the past few decades personal development has become a huge industry, and in recent years the internet has fueled the surge of new products and programs devoted to self-improvement. Unfortunately, the tremendous growth in the industry has opened the door for scam artists hoping to make a bundle of cash before anyone realizes their products are useless.

These companies attempt to lull prospective customers into a false sense of security by littering their marketing copy with catchy phrases that sound high-tech or scientific, despite their so-called science being nothing more than made-up nonsense. You've all heard the buzzwords before. (Can anyone say "quantum"?) They fill their advertisements and web sites with pseudoscience and hope consumers will be hypnotized by the apparent magic of it all.

Yesterday someone sent me a link to a personal development web site so I could check out a video featured on the site's home page. In the video, the host explains how her company's system can release your subconscious fears and transform your life by "tapping into the quantum field", and their method is supposedly an effective cure for all your problems because "every single perception you've ever experienced is stored as images in the water molecules in the microtubules of your brain" and "those images are projecting onto the quantum field and reflecting back at you."

I'm sure neuroscientists around the world would cringe upon reading such claims. Quantum physicists probably would cringe right along with them.

Did you notice how in just a few brief sentences she managed to incorporate enough buzzwords to …Continue reading

Gamma Mind Enhancement Experiment - Days 26-30

October 19th, 2007

Mind enhancement experimentThose of you who have been following the Gamma mind enhancement experiment probably noticed the long delay between the end of the experiment and this post about the results from the final week of the experiment. The reason for the delay is because I wanted to observe whether or not the results lasted after I stopped using the CD, and, if so, how long after the end of the experiment they lasted.

Regarding whether or not the effects lasted beyond the end of the experiment, the answer to that question is yes and no. Some of the results lasted and others didn't. As I described in the report from Days 8 through 11 of the experiment, it's common for some effects to occur right away while others take time, and also common for some effects to occur only while using the technology and for other effects to last long after the final listening session is over.

Some of the effects occurred only while I was listening to the CD and faded within a few hours or less after the end of the listening session. For example, the tingling in the forehead, which I first described in the report from Day 1 of the experiment, occurred only during the 30-minute listening sessions and gradually faded away within a few hours after each session ended.

The pulsing sensation I described early in the experiment, which I observed during …Continue reading

Gamma Mind Enhancement Experiment - Days 19-25

August 30th, 2007

In my report about Days 12 through 18 of the Gamma Mind Enhancement Technology experiment, I mentioned I was beginning to notice that the Gamma technology seemed to increase the effectiveness or amplify the intensity of other practices, such as meditation or Qigong, which is why I decided to try a little experiment within the experiment. This is by no means a proper experiment adhering to formal research protocols, so I'm sure there are a dozen flaws in the test method, but I'll mention my results and observations anyway.

Regardless of which form of energy work I attempt, the Gamma technology seems to increase the effects. When I try the techniques without the Gamma technology, I get results. When I try the techniques with the technology, I get stronger results.

Regardless of which form of meditation I practice, the Gamma technology seems to make it smoother and more productive. When I meditate without the technology, I notice results. When I meditate with the technology, I notice better results and have a much easier time reaching a meditative state with minimal mind chatter.

But, here's the really interesting part:

After trying the same techniques with and without using the technology every day for one week, my results without the technology are also improving at an otherwise inexplicable rate. …Continue reading
