Gamma Mind Experiment - Days 8-11

June 27th, 2007

During days 8 through 11 of the Gamma Mind Enhancement Experiment, the effects seemed to level off and are closer to the mild effects I would expect from the first few weeks of using a new form of mind enhancement technology, which raises a point worth considering.

We tend to want immediate results in everything we do, whether it's weight loss, learning a new skill, starting a business, or even using a mind enhancement program. We expect it to be like flipping a switch — one moment things are one way and the next moment everything has changed and we've lost twenty pounds or we've mastered that new skill. Granted, it would be fantastic if things worked that way, but realistically they don't. Even with mind enhancement programs, which can speed up the process considerably, it still takes time to achieve significant results. Sometimes it can take many months, which sounds like a long time but really isn't all that long when you compare it to the lifetime it can take to reach these same results without the technology.

During the first week of testing the Gamma technology I noticed some strong effects, which were mostly unexpected because it's not typical for this type of technology to trigger instant results. There are some mild physical sensations that typically occur right away, and, depending on the type of brain activity involved in the test, a person might also experience deep relaxation, heightened concentration, or other results right away. But, there are additional results that usually come only after using the technology on a daily basis for several weeks or months.

For example, with the Insight CD, which uses a similar form of technology but evokes different brain activity, most people feel extremely relaxed right away but over time they also notice other results such as improved sleep, reduced stress, deeper self-awareness, and many more benefits that come with using the technology. With the Focus CDs, people notice enhanced concentration right away when they first listen to the CDs, but after using the CDs for a few months they begin to notice they're much more easily able to concentrate and focus whenever they want, even when not using the technology.

I expected the same to be true of the Gamma technology, and from what I've seen of the results from other people testing the technology, that assumption is generally correct. There are certain effects that seem to appear very early in the process and other results that take much longer. I believe my early results were somewhat atypical because I've also tested each of the previous versions of the Gamma technology and there's a cumulative effect when using this type of technology for a long time. I've been testing it off and on over the past few years, so I can't rule out the chance that some of the results during this particular test are actually due to the cumulative effect of testing various versions of the Gamma technology over the years.

But let's get down to business…

Day 8 of the experiment was a bust, thanks to interference from Mother Nature. There were storms throughout my area during that night and I couldn't listen to the CD without hearing the thunder or seeing the flashes of lightning brighten the entire room, even with my headphones on and my eyes closed. I gave up halfway through the 30-minute session because the sound of the thunder was overpowering the audio that makes up the Gamma technology.

During the sessions on days 9 through 11, I noticed some minor physical sensations, including the same tingling in my head I mentioned in previous reports. One other sensation I noticed (only on Day 9) was a bit of lightheadedness, but that could just as easily have been due to not eating much for dinner that evening or due to a new Qigong breathing technique I'd tried earlier in the day.

During one session, I practiced a few energy manipulation techniques and noticed the same amplification I'd noticed in some of the earlier sessions. On the other two days, I didn't practice any techniques and instead just let my mind wander. Other than the mild tingling in my head, I didn't notice anything else on those days.

The intense dreams have continued, and I also had a brief lucid dream. My dreams are usually chaotic and surreal, with most of the details being very abstract and metaphoric. The events in this particular dream were crazy but were also much less abstract than my usual dreams, which made the events feel more realistic, which for some reason made me question their likelihood even more. I finally asked myself, "How can this possibly be happening?", which turned out to be the perfect trigger for a lucid dream.

The moment that question entered my dreaming mind, I decided to perform a reality check. I was in a plaza in a foreign city and there were signs in some of the windows of the shops surrounding the plaza, so I looked at the text on one of the signs. Normally, I would look away and then look back at the sign to see if the text had changed, but this time that wasn't even necessary because the text started changing and morphing before I even looked away. Since it was a painted wooden sign, not a digital sign that could be expected to change, I knew I must be dreaming.

I felt mentally tired due to all the action that had led up to that point in the dream, so I simply decided to fly. After a few minutes of floating and flying, I woke up. Even though it wasn't necessarily a very productive lucid dream, I was pleased with myself for remaining focused and lucid enough to fly in specific patterns and to fly over certain areas to get an aerial view. I was aiming for relaxation and fun, not productivity, so it worked out well enough.
